Breakfast for Champions Event Recap
Â鶹ÊÓƵ San Antonio hosted our Breakfast for Champions Event presented by Valero on Thursday, November 11th. The event was the culmination of our fall campaign that celebrated our pandemic heroes; teachers, staff, and AmeriCorps members who have and continue to successfully navigate the pandemic. Leading up to this event we hosted breakfast celebrations at our nine San Antonio Independent School District partner schools.
We had a full house with 175 community leaders in attendance. Guests enjoyed breakfast, networking, an inspirational keynote by Admiral William H. McRaven, and a thoughtful panel on how Sidney Lanier High School navigated and continues to navigate the pandemic. Dr. Philip Carney, School District Administrator – Restorative Discipline, North East, ISD, moderated the panel which included Dr. Moises Ortiz, Principal; Adriana Abundis, Math Teacher; and Anthony Rodriquez Jr., Second Year Team Leader of Valero Energy Foundation AmeriCorps team, Â鶹ÊÓƵ San Antonio.
In honor of Veteran’s Day, the event began with a Presentation of Colors by the Mighty Voks Battalion Color Guard of Sidney Lanier High School and Â鶹ÊÓƵ AmeriCorp member, Krystal Harris, Team Leader of the AmeriCorps team serving at Davis Middle School, sang the National Anthem.
We are so grateful to all of our participants and attendees for helping to make this event a success. You can watch content from the event, including the Admiral’s keynote below.
Thank you to all of our sponsors and contributors who made this event possible. Your support allows us to show up for children!
