Year in and year out the work that 鶹Ƶ can accomplish is made possible by a strong group ofdedicated and fearlessAmeriCorps members, but also bythe generosity of ourcorporate and community partners. These organizations not only show their support monetarily, but they donate their time, resources, and much more to show their alignment with our mission to provide equitable educational access to all students. Each quarter,鶹Ƶ Philly (CYP) is pleased tohighlight the recent work that our partners have done in support of our mission. Below is our third quarter roundup.

Comcast Court of Dreams Game– January 9

On January 9,AmeriCorps members who serveat Roosevelt Elementary School,members of CYP’sCivic Engagement team (will be linked), and 鶹Ƶ staff were invited to play afewfriendly gamesof basketball at the Wells Fargo Center. This arena is home tothePhiladelphia 76ers, so to have the opportunity to grace thecourtproved to beaone-of-a-kind experience. All games were refereed by Art Block, Senior Advisor for the Comcast Corporation and member of the 鶹Ƶ PhiladelphiaSiteBoard, who was also gifted a custom鶹Ƶbasketball in honor ofhis and Comcast’scontinued support of鶹Ƶ Philly. Following the festivities, attendees had the opportunity to watch the Sixers do what they do best and win a game against the Boston Celtics.

American Airlines Terminal Tour– January14

On January 14, American Airlines welcomedtheAmeriCorps team from Southwark Schooland 20 of their studentsto Terminal A for a tour of the Philadelphia InternationalAirport. Students were checked in aspassengers, spoke with the control tower staff, saw the maintenance hangar,and had an opportunity to sit in the cockpitalongside pilots onan American Airlines Airbus. OneSouthwarkstudent left the field tripdeclaring, “I’m going to work here one day.”

Faegre Drinker first mentor lunch– January17

For the pastfiveyears, Faegre Drinker lawyershave mentoredmembers of the CYPAmeriCorps team serving at Thurgood Marshall School. On January 17,they met for lunch to discuss career paths, review job application materials, and to builduponprofessional relationships.

Pancakes with Partners– February 27

On February 27,theAmeriCorps team serving at The Penn Treaty School hosted over 10 new corporate liaisons and prospective partners fora pancakebreakfast and a short presentation from our Executive Director & Vice President DarrylBundrige. Guests learned about 鶹Ƶ Philadelphia’sservicemodelandupcoming events,thenwere given a tour of the school. The group also had the opportunity to hear stories and connect with several members of the AmeriCorps team at the school.

Comcast donates 200 books to Olney for National Reading Month –March 6

On March 6, 2020, members of Comcast’s Women’s Network and Black Employee Network donated over 200 books to the 鶹Ƶ team serving at Olney Elementary School. The books were primarily used as reading material for the schoolday,but some were sent home with students as gifts in support of the school’s National Reading Month literacy initiative.
