Meet Â鶹ÊÓƵ Detroit’s Newest Board Member: Roz Blanck
Â鶹ÊÓƵ Detroit is thrilled to welcome Roz Blanck, a long-time volunteer in the community, as the newest member of our board.
“We are so excited to welcome Roz to Â鶹ÊÓƵ Detroit’s Board! She has been an incredible advocate for Â鶹ÊÓƵ Detroit and works tirelessly to support the students we serve. Our organization is truly grateful for Roz’s dedication to our community, and we look forward to collaborating with Roz in her new role.”
– Jessica Stowers, Interim Executive Director
Roz Komisar Blanck is an attorney by education and a community volunteer by passion. She is currently a member of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit’s Board of Governors and a trustee of The Jewish Fund and Jewish Women’s Foundation, as well as being on many committees and boards of constituent agencies. She was named Activist of the Year by the Jewish Community Relations Council in 2010 for her continuous and consistent dedication to and involvement with the Detroit Jewish community. Roz has also served on the board of Brillant Detroit, which creates neighborhoods in Detroit where kids are ready for kindergarten and reading by the third grade.
For the past 20 years, Roz has spearheaded one of the Detroit metropolitan community’s most successful grassroots volunteer efforts, Bookstock: Used Book and Media Sale. Bookstock benefits education and literacy programs in Detroit and beyond and is a longtime supporter of Â鶹ÊÓƵ Detroit, providing funds for literacy projects at our partner schools. To date, Bookstock has contributed more than $2.5 million to educational and literacy programs throughout southeast Michigan.
“I am honored and excited to be coming on the board of Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Since learning of it starting up in Detroit many years ago, I have thought of it as a wonderful asset to the Detroit educational community. Through my involvement in Bookstock, I have become more acquainted with what Â鶹ÊÓƵ accomplishes. I look forward to learning and helping where I can, especially if there is any intersection with my involvement with Brilliant Detroit.”
– Roz Blanck
Roz Blanck and her husband, Stanford, live in Franklin and have three married children and four grandchildren.
