Louisiana State University offers Â鶹ÊÓƵ AmeriCorps members, alums and staff
100% scholarships
A 100% tuition scholarship will be awarded to up to two Â鶹ÊÓƵ applicants per year who enroll full time in a degree-granting graduate-level program at Louisiana State’s flagship Baton Rouge campus. Awards do not extend to the Law Center, Health Sciences Center or Louisiana State University Online.
Scholarships include a graduate internship with the , up to 10 hours per week for two semesters of the graduate program. Scholars will likely work on programming related to K-12 education, with opportunities to serve some hours at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Baton Rouge. The internship will not prevent scholars from pursuing employment external to campus.
Requirements
- First-year, first-semester graduate student
- Admitted to a graduate program with regular admission status
- Program must be in-person and on-campus at the Baton Rouge LSU location
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Â鶹ÊÓƵ AmeriCorps members or alums who have completed at least one term of service or Â鶹ÊÓƵ staff member employed for at least two years
Please note:
- Not available to returning students, even if starting new/different program
- Students with academic or disciplinary probation will not be considered
- Additional fees are not covered (i.e., academic excellence fee, registration fee, etc.)
- Students cannot hold graduate assistantship and tuition waiver awards simultaneously
- *Some program application deadlines do not necessarily align with the Â鶹ÊÓƵ/LSU Scholarship deadline. One might be awarded a scholarship prior to hearing back from their graduate program. If, ultimately, a graduate program does not accept an applicant who was rewarded a scholarship, the scholarship will be revoked.

- While the scholarships are only open to Graduate Programs, all applicants to LSU are eligible for an application fee waiver, regardless of program (for both and graduate programs)
- Enrollment deferral: Louisiana State’s Graduate School cannot guarantee that requests to defer enrollment will be granted. Once admitted, students must send a request for deferment in writing to the . Within the request, indicate your reason for the deferment (Â鶹ÊÓƵ service) and the future semester to which you wish to defer. Once the request is received and reviewed, a decision will be mailed to you. Deferments are NOT offered for undergraduate degree programs.

The 2025-2026 Scholarship Application is slated to be open from February 1st through mid-March, 2025.

Undergraduate programs (application fee waiver only)
- Save your online application prior to submission.
- Contact alumni@cityyear.org to request a verification letter. This letter will be emailed by Â鶹ÊÓƵ directly to admissions@lsu.edu (you will be CC’d). Once your Â鶹ÊÓƵ affiliation has been confirmed, the application fees will be paid from the Academic Support Fund.
- Submit your official high school transcript and official ACT/SAT test scores to complete the application process.
Graduate programs (application fee waiver)
- Save your online application prior to submission.
- Before submitting the application (when you reach the point where payment is necessary), contact alumni@cityyear.org to request a service verification letter. Once this letter is emailed back to you, complete this and upload your service verification letter to the form. Once your Â鶹ÊÓƵ affiliation has been confirmed, the application fees will be paid from the Academic Support Fund.
Graduate programs (tuition scholarship consideration)

- Upload a résumé. Résumés cannot exceed three pages and should include your comprehensive educational background and cumulative grade point averages of any previously granted undergraduate or graduate degrees. Résumés should also include your contact information (phone number, email address).
- Upload a personal statement that is no longer than 500 words, regarding your service through Â鶹ÊÓƵ and its impact on your educational goals
- Submit two letters of recommendation from persons who can speak to your time with Â鶹ÊÓƵ (i.e. an impact manager, impact director, school administrator, teacher, etc.).
Once you complete the Louisiana State University Â鶹ÊÓƵ Partnership Award application, your Â鶹ÊÓƵ affiliation and graduate admission status will be confirmed, and you will be considered for the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Graduate Tuition Award.
