Why Â鶹ÊÓƵ loves Shady Hill School

is an independent, coeducational day school located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It honors the character and spirit of each child and encourages independent thinking in its students. Shady Hill’s program respects the pace of childhood, and its school creates a culture in which children feel free to take risks. It stresses the relationships among many areas of learning and uses original source materials, rather than textbooks. Central Subject, a distinctive method of teaching at Shady Hill, is an integrated approach to a people via their history, literature, geography and arts.

is an on-site, certifying program in which Shady Hill master teachers mentor graduate-level “apprentices” who are preparing for a career in education. In this one-year site-based program, apprentice teachers discover what teaching is all about through observation, supervised teaching, workshops, seminars and continuous involvement in the life of the school. Some participants choose to enroll solely in the Teacher Training Center, though most also participate in a partnering master’s program at Lesley University or Boston University. Â鶹ÊÓƵ strengthens an applicant’s competitiveness and chances for being selected for the Shady Hill Teacher Training Center’s residency program.
