Academy for Urban School Leadership offers Â鶹ÊÓƵ alums
Teaching residency
Academy for Urban School Leadership’s Chicago Teacher Residencyâ„¢ will prepare you for a career as a Chicago Public Schools teacher with the training, skills and strategies to empower students to pursue their dreams.
During the training year, you will work with an experienced educator, who will provide mentorship in a supportive environment along with structured feedback and strategic advice to inform and transform applied teaching practices. You will also receive the following benefits:
- Reduced tuition to earn your Master of Education from DePaul University
- $20,000 training scholarship (paid directly to you) for DePaul University’s tuition, living or educational costs
- Full-time teaching position in Chicago Public Schools
- Full licensure to teach in Illinois
- Ability to earn a second Segal Education Award
Why Â鶹ÊÓƵ loves Academy for Urban School Leadership
is a nonprofit organization that provides equity-focused programming to improve educational outcomes for students in under-invested communities. Its is a one-year teacher training program for talented professionals who passionately believe that all students deserve a quality education. Residents receive a scholarship to DePaul University’s master’s in education program and yearlong in-classroom experience with a trained mentor teacher. The residency is a supportive program that develops highly effective teachers.
By combining theory and practice, participants receive the tools they need to become successful educators in Chicago Public Schools and beyond. Upon completion of the one-year program, individuals are fully licensed to teach in Illinois and to be placed in a full-time teaching position in Chicago Public Schools. The Â鶹ÊÓƵ experience is a strong indicator of future success in Academy for Urban School Leadership’s program and strengthens a candidate’s application and chances of being selected as a Chicago Teacher Resident.
